Clinical
Coordinator, Pediatrics -
Howard Elson, DMD

|
Dr. Howard Elson has maintained
a successful pediatric dental practice in McKeesport, PA for
the past 27 years, as well as being a professional actor,
singer and entertainer with numerous stage, radio, TV, film
and commercial credits. Dr. Elson travels around the country
performing his one man music/comedy show for dental
conventions, banquets, and staff appreciation events. His
new music/comedy CD, “Dr. Howard Elson…A Dentist’s Life!” is
available on his website www.thedentalshow.com.
Dr. Elson opened his pediatric dental practice, from
scratch, in an economically vibrant blue collar steel mill
town, where the families were large, and so were the dental
insurance benefits. Within 5 years, the steel mills had
closed, the workers were laid off, and the economy imploded.
Despite these severe conditions, Dr. Elson decided to “stay
the course.” His practice developed systems and efficiencies
to be able to ethically practice successfully in an
economically deprived area, and provide dental services to
children who are in dire need and have limited resources and
access to care.
Dr. Elson spends his practice time taking care of children
from all socio-economic strata, accepts most commercial
insurance programs, and Medical Assistance and Welfare
programs. Within the parameters of a full service pediatric
dental practice, he is most grateful that he has developed
expertise in treating children with rampant decay, and very
young children with Early Childhood Caries, using the gamut
of behavior management techniques, ranging from simple
“Tell/Show/Do,” though the use of Nitrous Oxide, Conscious
Sedation, and General Anesthesia.
Dr. Elson feels that treating children with these conditions
using proper behavior management techniques can be taught to
interested practitioners and can be very rewarding
professionally and financially.
